Mpox Outbreak at Worst: India Remains Low at Risk
Healthy Ministry is concerned about the rising cases of Mpox. Assures India in safe hands as risk is less likely to affect the country. International travellers might import the virus.
The cases of Mpox are on the rise, leading to Government strategies and managing techniques. The health ministry confirmed that close to 32 laboratories have been set up which will be useful in detecting and isolating the patients of Mpox.
The joint body made the measures of health ministers during a review meeting with J P Nadda. The joint body of the health ministers also claimed that the risk of being a threat could be minimal however, it can have an impact if travellers import the virus.
“Although the possibility of a few imported cases being detected in the coming weeks is not entirely ruled out, it was assessed that the risk of a large outbreak with sustained transmission is presently low for India,” said a spokesperson from the Union Health Ministry.
In the past 2 years, India has recorded close to 32 cases of Monkey pox where the last recorded case was on March 2024. World Health Organization declared Mpox to be a deadly virus and a National emergency. However, the variant is not strong enough to succumb to life. It is surely a faster-spreading virus than any of the variants.
The current outbreak is caused by Clad I Mpox which is transmitted sexually unlike the previous variant which is caused when coming in close contact. Transmission through droplets was also highly witnessed in previous cases. However, sexual transmission has not been reported so far.
