Monica Lewinsky Says Bill Clinton Should Seek Apology to Her
In the year 1999, for the first time, Monica during an interview sought public apology to Hillary and her family.
In an article written by Monica Lewinsky and published by Vanity Fair recently, she once again said, she would seek apology to Hillary Clinton, if she ever comes face to face with her, but says Bill Clinton “should want to apologize”, as she is less disappointed by him but more disappointed for him.
Monica Lewinsky wrote about Hillary, “I know that I would summon up whatever force I needed to again acknowledge to her sincerely how very sorry I am”. In the year 1999, for the first time, Monica during an interview sought public apology to Hillary and her family. Now, in a new A&E documentary series, “The Clinton Affair”, which goes deep into the events that lead to the impeachment of former US President Bill Clinton, Lewinsky once again raised the issue saying former President Bill Clinton must apologize to her.
Lewinsky, 45, also discussed in the documentary the power dynamics that protected Clinton from being abused or humiliated, but being a commoner she had to face public isolation. The first episode of the documentary will be aired on Sunday.
Lewinsky, then a 22-year-old White House intern, became the center of world’s attention for her alleged affair with then US President Bill Clinton that nearly brought an end to his Presidency. Before a grand jury led by special prosecutor Kenneth Starr, Clinton lied and declined having any kind of relationship with her and was saved. Afterwards being bullied and slapped by Clinton and his supporters, Lewinsky took herself out of the public eye and led an isolated life, only to re-emerge a few years ago.
The intensity of bullying was so much that in the past, she has been reluctant to address the questions about the scandal publicly, but now she is opening up about the infamous relationship, like the one in the documentary, which may be her most detailed exclusive interview till date.
In the article, Lewinsky wrote, “Throughout history, women have been traduced and silenced. Now, it is our time to tell our own stories in our own words”, Lewinsky sharing her experience filming the documentary, says, “Yes, the process of filming has been exceedingly painful. But I hope that by participating, by telling the truth about a time in my life - a time in our history - I can help ensure that what happened to me never happens to another young person in our country again”.
In the article, Lewinsky also shared her experience being interviewed for the documentary for more than 20 hours and in the process, she had to recall all memories, she wishes she could erase. On the question of whether she owes or deserve, a personal apology from Bill Clinton, Lewinsky wrote that she believes Clinton “should want to apologize”.
She wrote, “I am less disappointed by him and more disappointed for him. He would be a better man for it and we, in turn, a better society”.
