A 39 year old man who entered Western Australia from Brisbane and failed to meet exemption requirements has allegedly fled his quarantine hotel room using bed sheets as a rope.
Officials directed him to spend the night in a quarantine hotel. He was also given 48 hours to move out of Western Australia.
Instead of following the directions the man apparently decided to escape the quarantine hotel using bed sheets from the fourth floor.
Later the man was spotted on Beaufort Street near Second Ave in Mt. Lawley and thereafter he was arrested by the Operation Tide Compliance and Assurance officers.
He was charged for failing to comply with the directions under the provisions of the Emergency Management Act and providing misleading information.
The Western Australia Police Force wrote on their official FB page, “The man arrived in WA on a flight from Brisbane about 4.15pm yesterday, Monday 19 July 2021. He had failed to complete a G2G pass prior to arrival so a manual G2G pass was completed on entry to WA. The G2G application was refused as it did not satisfy any exemption categories under existing restrictions for Queensland and he was issued with a direction to leave WA within 48 hours.
The man was directed to temporarily quarantine overnight in a hotel and was conveyed to a Rivervale hotel where it is alleged about 12.45am this morning (20 July), he climbed out a window of the fourth floor room using a rope made of bed sheets and fled the area.”
The man’s Covid-19 test results however turned out to be negative.
Australia is struggling to contain a local outbreak of Delta variant that began on June 16 with a limousine driver from Bondi, Sydney transported international flight crew. Numerous cases are being reported from states like New South Wales (NSW), Victoria and South Australia. The Australian borders have been closed since last year and limited people are allowed to enter the country under strict conditions.
