Lost in The 2011 Japan Tsunami, A Japanese Man Still Searches for His Wife with Glimpses of Hope
Yasuo Takamatsu is on a quest to find the body of his wife who was swept away in the 2011 Tsunami in Japan. Claims "I anticipated it would be difficult, and it has been, but it's the only thing I can do."
Yasuo Takamatsu was one of the thousands who expected to see their loved ones for the one last time. Yuko was a bank employee working as usual on her daily routine when the big waves splattered the windows and door panes of the bank in 2011. Yasuo Takamatsu wants to perform his wife's last ritual. Now, Yasuo Takamatsu consistently makes dives into the murky rivers of Fukushima where his wife was swept away.
The 2011 Tsunami was one of the deadliest as it claimed close to 20,000 lives and swept away many people. The Tsunami was unpredictable and created immense havoc in Japan The size of the waves was impossible to get out of.
Takamatsu's faith and consistent belief keep him constant in the endeavors where he expects to find his wife someday.
Masayoshi Takahashi, an expert diver is helping Takamatsu in finding the debris of his wife as he is an experienced diver and has also worked as an underwater debris cleaner after the 2011 Japan Tsunami. Masayoshi Takahashi was initially making the dives but later, Takamatsu joined him and now the duo are taking the waters to find the body of Takamatsu’s wife.
Despite the water being extremely vigorous and furious, the duo have been searching for the body. There are many challenges they encounter underwater including limited visibility. This is a challenging aspect for both of them still they hope to find the body soon.
In an interview with the New York Times, Takamatsu claims "I anticipated it would be difficult, and it has been, but it's the only thing I can do." Takamatsu wanted to warn his wife about the severity of the Tsunami however, it remained unsent.
