Legendary Filmmaker Tarun Majumdar Died
Director Tarun Majumdar, who is known for making movies based on compelling tales highlighting the hassle of middle-class families, died in a Kolkata hospital, family. He is survived by his wife, actress Sandhya Roy.

He explained the importance of joint family. He portrayed the moments of middle class Bengalis on the screen through movies like ‘Balika Badhu’, ‘Dadaar Kirti’, ‘Alo’, ‘Chander Bari’. Legendary director has left behind this everlasting treasure of moving images. Together with Sachin Mukherjee and Dilip Mukherjee, he formed a ‘Jatrik’ team and started directing movies. The first film of the three directors is ‘Chawa Pawa’. Starring Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Tulsi Chakraborty.
He received his first National Award for the 1962 Bengali film Kancher Swarga.
Majumdar has been undergoing treatment at the SSKM hospital with old age ailments for the past few days. A team of five doctors led by Somnath Kundu, a doctor of chest medicine and Soumitra Ghosh, a doctor of medicine, kept a close watch on the director.
He received four National Awards, seven BFJA Awards, five Filmfare Awards and an Anandalok Award. In 1990, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri.
