In a shocking case, a two-year-old Labrador dog in the UK became a victim of alcohol addiction. It is currently being treated at Woodside Animal Rescue Trust in Plymouth, Devon.
Coco was handed over to the Woodside Animal Rescue Centre along with another dog after the death of their owner. Unfortunately, the second dog didn’t survive.
Apparently Coco developed an alcohol addiction from his former owner.
The dogs began suffering from fits after they were handed over to the rescue centre.
Despite the best of efforts, the second dog couldn’t make it.
Coco too became seriously ill. He showed all symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. He was kept sedated for several weeks to deal with the withdrawal symptoms and to prevent further fits.
During the treatment at the Dunroamin Special Care Unit, Coco was kept away from the main Kennels and was given treatment in a “more homely environment.”
Fortunately, Coco has made immense progress and has fully recovered physically though he gets anxious at times.
The Woodside Animal Welfare Trust said that this was the first case of canine alcohol withdrawal they’ve witnessed.
The rescue centre desires to find a home for Coco in Plymouth so that he could continue to receive treatment from them.
The Page also mentioned that they have no idea how these dogs got into the alcohol situation in the first place.
