Kannada actor Chethana Raj who was popular for her roles in Geetha and Doresani has passed away after her plastic surgery went wrong. She was 21.
The actress was admitted to Dr Shetty’s Cosmetic Clinic in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru on 16 May.
After the actress developed complications post surgery, Anaesthetist Melvin, along with the doctors who performed the plastic surgery, brought Chethana to Kaade Hospital at 5.30 pm.
Apparently they threatened the Doctors of Kaade Hospital to treat her as a person who suffered cardiac arrest.
The Doctors initiated CPR and tried to revive her for the past 45 minutes with no success.
ICU intensivist then wrote a complaint to the inspector of Basaveshwaranagar Police Station, where he mentioned that Chethana was declared dead at 6.45 pm.
Chethana’s uncle Rajappa spoke about the unfortunate incident to India today: “She is my younger brother’s daughter and she was a Kannada TV actress. Somebody had told her to reduce weight as she appeared fat. So, she went to Shetty Hospital to remove the excess fat. The hospital is not equipped with an ICU. After the surgery, water accumulated in her lungs. Later, they shifted her to another hospital nearby where she was declared 'brought dead.”
Since the news of her death broke, the internet is flooded with condolences and tributes. The actress began her career just a few months ago and many feel that she was too young to die.
The family members have lodged a case against Dr Shetty’s Cosmetic Clinic. The parents allege that the clinic’s ICU lacked proper facilities and didn’t take their consent before the operation.
Some reports suggest that the actress was body shamed. She didn’t inform her parents of the procedure and the consent form was shared by her friend.
The procedure that the actress opted for is called Liposuction. In this surgical procedure, a suction technique is used to remove the fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck.
Though liposuction is considered a safe and a popular method to remove fat from the body, the procedure involves risks. Most medical websites state that liposuction isn’t considered an alternative to weight loss.
