Journalist Killed in Bastar Days after Reporting Corruption in Multi-Crore Road Project, 11-Member Investigation Team Formed

The death of a 33-year-old Journalist has sent remorse waves across the country. Mukesh Chadrakar had recently exposed corruption behind a multi-crore road project. Days later his body was found in the septic tank in a contractor’s property. While police have already arrested three individuals associated with the case, the prime accused Suresh Chandrakar is on the run and every possible effort is being made to nab the accused.

On January 23rd Mukesh’s body was found from the house of Suresh Chandhrakar situated in Bijapur District. Mukesh was a local news journalist who had recently busted the corrupt operations behind the road construction project in Bastar. The news had led to government investigations on the contractor.

Mukesh was Missing since the morning of 1st January and as per records, he was last seen with Ritesh Chadrakar, brother of Suresh Chandrakar who had organized a meeting in the property where Mukesh’s body was retrieved. However, Muskesh could not be contacted anymore post the meeting. Police have nabbed Ritesh, and another brother of Suresh namely Dinesh. Despite constant efforts, police could not nab Suresh the prime accused.

After his missing complaint was reported by Yukesh Chandrakar, elder brother of Mukesh, police started a search operation and declared him missing. With the help of location and CCTV footage, the police could identify his body hiding in a newly constructed cement tank. Authorities claim that the death of the journalist is because of the exposed reports he had sent out which led to investigations on the contractor. An 11-member team has been developed, led by Mayank Giurjar will be investigating the death of the journalist

CM Vijay Sharma claimed to prepare the chargesheet in one week. He claims a clear plot and murder as Mukesh had allowed NDTV to air the news against the corrupt contractor. While the matter is yet to be discovered, a political brawl is being witnessed where BJP and Congress are blaming each other for the cause. BJP claims that the Home Minister of the state is a close ally of Suresh Chandrakar.

Congress on the other hand was countering the measure and slammed BJP by posting photos of Suresh Chandrakar with senior leader of BJP. Congress also alleged the release of CCTV footage of CM’s home which Suresh had visited a few days back.

Mukesh owned a YouTube channel called Bastar Junction where he would be uploading various videos and news daily. He was known for his fearless news collection for which he also reduced a CRPF jawan from the interior of Bastar whom Maoists had held hostage. Numerous media bodies have extended their condolences to the family of the journalist.
