Hamas Releases First Hostage Video: Franco-Israeli Woman Kidnapped from Music Festival

Hamas has released a video featuring an Israeli woman who was taken hostage during the October 7 attacks that resulted in a significant loss of life and triggered a conflict in Gaza, claiming over 1,300 lives. Approximately 200 individuals were reportedly seized during the series of attacks.

The video, which was made public by Hamas' military wing, known as the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, showcases a woman who has identified herself as 21-year-old Miya Schem. The footage shows that her arm has been wrapped in bandages.

In the video, Ms. Schem discloses her origin as Sderot, a small Israeli city situated near the Gaza border. On the day of the attacks, she was attending the Supernova Sukkot Music Festival on Kibbutz Re'im when it was targeted by Hamas operatives. Tragically, at least 260 individuals present at the music festival lost their lives, while others, including Ms. Schem, were taken captive.

The video, slightly over a minute in duration, portrays the medical care being provided to Miya for her injury. She reveals that she underwent a three-hour surgical procedure to address her injury.

She conveys that they are caring for her, treating her, and giving her medication, assuring that everything is okay. She adds that her only request is to be returned home as soon as possible, to her family, her parents, and her siblings.

The Israel Defense Forces have confirmed the abduction of Miya, which occurred last week and have reported that officials are in contact with her family.

In response to the video, Miya's family has expressed relief at seeing her safe, as reported by The Times of Israel.

It's worth noting that Miya is a dual citizen, holding both Israeli and French citizenship. Last week, her family, along with other French families, appealed to French President Emmanuel Macron for assistance in securing the release of their relatives.
