French Open Banned Serena Williams’ Black Catsuit, Was It Disrespectful at All?

Did you miss Serena Williams this French Open, arriving at the court in a black, skintight catsuit? It was a major breakthrough in terms of what the players generally wear during a match, but, the French Federation didn’t take it positively, and even took a step forward by putting a ban on it. Reason? They found it disrespectful!

Serena posted a snap of her in that outfit appearing no less than a queen or a warrior, adding, “Catsuit anyone? For all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy—here you go. If I can do it, so can you. Love you all!!”

Referring to Serena’s catsuit French Tennis Federation President Bernard Giudicelli told the Associated Press the “I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far,”... “It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place,”.

But what exactly went wrong with the black suit? Did it defy any specific norm regarding the tennis court dress code? We don’t have an answer yet!

However, her fans praised her look supporting her all through. In fact, according to many on Twitter, it is not very clear, specifically what was so disrespectful about Serena’s outfit. Many are of the opinion, post-pregnancy, if a woman’s body feels comfortable in a similar suit, where’s the issue!

According to Serena, pants have been helping her lately to get the blood circulation go right, “I’ve been wearing pants in general a lot when I play so I can keep the blood circulation going,”.

The 36-year-old mother of one, has been a 23 time Grand Slam winner and has recently topped the Forbes list of highest earning women athletes. The Wakanda inspired catsuit, bearing reference to the Marvel film “Black Panther” had every potential of becoming a front-runner for a whole new clothing line for women. Reportedly, the Federation is on the verge of introducing a new on-court dress code.

Some even trolled the Federation’s decision by posting an image from Andre Agassi’s younger days flaunting his long hair along with a bright red headband, mentioning, “As if this was ok? You do you @serenawilliams.
