Bomb threats have become quite common for the airport resulting in advanced threat management and risk mitigation. While airports and DGCA take such threats quite seriously, the risk out of them can also not be neglected.
Thiruvananthapuram airport recently received a bomb threat from the pilot of an Air India flight traveling from Mumbai. The matter came to light when the pilot had communicated regarding a bomb threat to the ATC. The flight landed at the airport safely and all the passengers were evacuated in a short time.
The flight was carrying close to 135 passengers all flying from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram. The source of the threat was not identified by the agencies. The agencies are further probing the matter and trying to identify the source of the threat.
“AI 657 (BOM-TRV) reported a bomb threat at 0730 hours on Aug 22, 2024. A full emergency was declared at TRV Airport at 0736 hours. The aircraft landed safely. It is now parked at the Isolation Bay, where the evacuation process has begun. There has been no impact on life. Airport operations are currently uninterrupted” claimed a statement from Thiruvananthapuram airport.
