Congress leader Milind Deora has come up with his own story of depression and shared some tips on how he battled his own inner demons. It was courageous of him to come up with his personal story and share it with the world.
He first encountered suicidal thoughts at the age of 16 and 17 however that phase lasted for a very short while for about 3 to 4 months. He had another bout of depression in 2006 and 2007 which was severe during which he battled depression and suicidal thoughts. During his third wave in 2013, he sought help from a psychiatrist in Delhi which was extremely helpful.
On Twitter, he shared a post on his coping mechanisms and on “handling the blues” which is buzzing with grief and angry posts over the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
On Sunday Milind Deora tweeted, “My own experience with suicidal thoughts, first as a teen & even as an MP, taught me to live with the blues. Sharing 5 effective coping tools…”
He stated that people should often reach out more. It could be your friends, family, colleagues, or even acquaintances. “You are more loved than you know”, he expressed.
Don’t hesitate to seek professional help when required and overcome the stigma of mental health. “Depression transcends age gender, economic strata, or success”, he wrote. The 43-year-old leader advised to never give in to your inner demons.
He explained, “Life is beautiful. Don’t get caught up in the rat race. Choose music, food, travel, reading, your work, and loved ones. Do what makes you happy. Choose life.”Last but not least he advised, “Love yourself for who you are”.
