Conflict Hits Microsoft And Delta Airways As The Latter Lost Close to $500 Million in One of The Biggest IT Outages

Atlanta-based Airline, Delta Airways lashed out at Microsoft for the tech disruption caused in July 2024. With a collaboration with Crowdstrike, Microsoft is fighting the allegations of Delta Airways which caused the business a loss of more than $500 million.

A global IT outage was witnessed in July 2024 which led to challenges for many businesses across the globe bringing the IT infrastructure to a halt. A defense lawyer from Microsoft claimed that the key IT system of Delta does not use Microsoft Windows but some other software

Delta Airways reported that it had to manually fix 40,000 servers which was challenging and time-worthy as well. The US transportation is also looking into the matter of why Delta Airways took so much of time to resume the process.

Microsoft claimed the acquisitions to be false and misleading tarnishing the brand image and falsifying the information. Mark Cheffo, handling the dispute between Delta Airways and Microsoft, added that Most of the Airline systems were restored except Delta Airways, instigating a concern of “Why?”.

Delta Airways claimed that they had spent a huge amount of money on reliable IT service providers. Since 2016 it has been spending billions in Annual IT costs.

Microsoft and Crowdstrike did not offer any help to the airline in recovering from the outage, which had potentially helped major airliners. Microsoft’s minor push of updates helped the majority of airlines and businesses recover from the issue.

Mark Cheffo finally added that the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella has mailed the CEO of Delta Airlines but never received a reply in this regard. The comments clearly expressed the exchange of heated arguments between the two giants.
