Comparison Is The Thief of Joy Says US Entrepreneur Jessica Mah; Here’s Why

Entrepreneur Jessica Mah’s latest LinkedIn post about her personal struggles despite her successful entrepreneurial journey is gaining attention online.

Jessica Mah is the founder of inDinero, a fintech company that helps small businesses to manage their finances.

The entrepreneur wrote, “I’ve dated celebrities. I’ve been on magazine covers. 🏎 For fun, I fly jet aircraft and drive exotic cars. Does my life sound like a fairy tale? When I hang out with aspiring entrepreneurs in college, they say they want my life. But my best friends who know me best almost always say they would HATE my life.”

 “Let’s look at the reality:

- I work all the f****ng time. 60 hours would be the minimum in any given week. I’m reviewing this post on a Sunday while “hanging out” in Mexico. Not a vacation.

- As stated in a previous post, I have ‘accomplishment dysmorphia’ (https://lnkd.in/e9Y9qvgU) and still see myself as a struggling entrepreneur.

- My previous boyfriend died by suicide (https://lnkd.in/eBuuCxm2) and I am having trouble bringing myself to date again for obvious reasons.”

Jessica admitted that she has a habit of comparing her life to others. This habit killed her happiness however after learning a trick in therapy she’s comparing herself less to others.

Jessica’s post is relevant today. In this day and age, many of us are caught in the web of comparison. We compare our lives to others on social media, we compare our lives to the lavish lives of celebrities and we compare our kids in school.

Comparison creeps into areas such as jobs, career, marriage, and so on and so forth.

As Jessica rightly points out “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

She explains that when you compare yourself to someone, you should also compare yourself to all their struggles too.

“Remember, you are a whole person, not just your accomplishments or net worth”, she rightly says.

Jessica’s post has struck a chord with audiences but it has also divided opinions.

One user wrote, “Congrats on hitting the big time. Quite an accomplishment. You've really made it :)”

Another user wrote, “Thanks for sharing. So authentic & courageous to be vulnerable online Jess Mah.”

A third user wrote, “I’ve raised that question a few times, who is truely happier, the person who drives the Ferrari into downtown but in meetings from 7am to 7pm, or the person who can leisurely take the bus around and just relax.”

There are others who don't agree with Jessica’s views. They accused her of not counting her blessings and privileges.

“You really typed all this and never once thought its a bad idea to post this? What even is a “accomplishment dysmorphia”? Do you have some common sense?”

“Typical women behaviour. Grained in DNA.”

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha how does one write something like this and completely fail to see the irony 😂😂😂😂

Jessica’s post has resonated with audiences both in a positive and a negative way. Many have appreciated her for her honesty, authenticity and for sharing her thoughts on the “comparison mindset” that affects many individuals negatively today.
