Cake Slice from Charles and Diana’s Wedding Gets Auctioned after Years

A cake slice from King Charles’ and Princess Diana’s wedding was auctioned by British auction house Dore and Rees On October 19.

The couple got married way back in 1981 in London.

There were 3000 guests in attendance and among them was Nigel Ricketts who preserved a slice of cake since the grand marriage ceremony took place.

Unfortunately Nigel who was a French Polisher and worked in Windsor Castle passed away in early 2022.

The cake was eventually sold for £170 ( ₹15,864), which fell short of its estimated price.

Although 23 wedding cakes were prepared; the slice seems to have come from the centre-piece fruit cake which had five layers.

The pictures affirm that the cake slice has truly stood the test of time.

The box which enclosed the piece of cake had the words Buckingham Palace with the wedding date imprinted on it. One can also see the initials of Charles and Diana.

Keeping in mind the number of years that have gone by; the box as well as the cake has been very well preserved although the piece of cake is not edible!

A slice of the same cake was sold for £990 ( ₹92,389 at current rate) in 2014.

Other slices of cake from the wedding were in fact more pricey.

Charles and Diana got married in July 1981. It was one of the most watched events on television as millions of fans viewed the ceremony. The marriage between the couple unfortunately lasted only eleven years
