Bengaluru Techie Atul Subhash’s Case Compels Us to Examine Women's Protection Laws and Whether They Are Being Misused #MenToo
#MenToo is trending after Atul Subhash’s suicide case, comes to light.
Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s case has sent shockwaves across the entire nation. Many viewers are outraged to learn about his intriguing story.
Atul Subhash, 34, created a 1-hour and 22-minute video in which he narrated how his wife and her family had placed false charges against him. He underwent years of emotional marital distress. He also highlighted that his father, mother, and brother were also harassed in the process.
Nine cases have been filed against him by his wife Nikita Singhania. He further stated that during one of the court proceedings, his wife had asked him to commit suicide, and ironically, the judge had also laughed at this insensitive remark.
It has come to light that Nikita Singhania made unreasonable monetary demands from him, despite being employed with a reputed company like Accenture.
In the video, Atul said, “They told me to commit suicide and I think they are right.” Tragically, Atul Subhash acted on their words and ended his life by hanging in his Bengaluru residence. He wrote a 24 page suicide note too.
In his last video, he pointed out that he has lost faith in the nation’s judicial system. There was a placard in his house with the words : “Justice is due.”
This case has raised a lot of questions that demand urgent reflection. Are laws that are meant to protect women being misused? Are innocent men becoming easy targets due to exploitation of divorce laws?
Online viewers are using social media to express their opinions. #MenToo is trending and gaining momentum on X.
In light of Atul Subhash's tragic case, it's crucial for us to reevaluate the divorce laws in India. In our country, there are still many women in vulnerable situations who rely on laws for their protection. Having said that, especially after witnessing Atul Subhash’s case, now is the right time to bring in neutral laws so that innocent men don’t get targeted or harassed unfairly.
Police have filed abetment of suicide case against Nikita Singhania, her parents and her uncle. The Singhania family, however, have denied the charges.
This case forces us to rethink the balance between safeguarding women and ensuring fairness for all.
