Actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger’s impressive video addressed to his Russian friends has been liked by many.
His genteel but hard-hitting speech has captivated audiences worldwide including Russians.
It has been trending on Russian Twitter on Friday.
He began his speech by first discussing about the Russian weight lifting champion Yuri Petrovich Vlasov who went on to become his hero. He then spoke about the opportunity of meeting his hero.
“All of a sudden a 14-year-old boy standing in front of the strongest man in the world. I couldn’t believe it. He reached out to shake my hand”, Arnold expressed.
“He had this powerful man’s hand that swallowed mine. But he was kind, and he smiled at me. I will never forget that day.”
Though his father coerced him not to follow his Russian idol and instead follow a German or an Austrian hero, Arnold didn’t pay heed.
“The strength and the heart of Russian people have always inspired me”, said the actor.
He then spoke of the attempted insurrection on January 6 when a wild crowd was storming the US Capitol.
“There are moments like these that are so wrong and then we have to speak up” the actor expressed.
“I know that your government has told you that this is a war to ‘de-Nazify’ Ukraine,” he said. “This is not true. Those in power in the Kremlin started this war.”
He further expressed that this is a “senseless war condemned by the entire world.” This is not the “Russian people’s war” and the people of Russia have been fed with wrong information concerning the war. He ended the video by calling Russians his “heroes.”
He brought to light the misery of the Ukrainian people and the “selfish ambitions” of those in power. Without a doubt, the “Terminator” has done a fantastic job in persuading Russians and the Kremlin power to stop the war.
He directly addressed the man behind the war Mr Putin in these thought-provoking words, “You started this war. You are leading this war. You can stop this war.”
