Ananya Birla’s Tweets on Racism Reaffirms That Disparity Still Exists in American Society

Daughter of Aditya Birla Group’s chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla alleged that she experienced racism in an Italian restaurant called ‘The Scopa Italian Roots’ in Washington.

Ananya Birla said that she and her family were “literally” thrown out of the premises of the restaurant. The Italian American place is run by Chef Antonio Lofaso.

Ananya Birla who is a singer tweeted:

What is shocking about this incident is that customers have experienced unfair treatment in a “high end” restaurant that generally follows protocol when it comes to treating customers irrespective of their race.

During the pandemic, the shocking death of George Floyd in the hands of police gripped the nation and once again reignited the topic of racial discrimination that exists in various sections of American society. There were massive protests, anger, and discussions revolving around the sensitive topic.

As a result of this former Vice President Joe Biden was pushed by his black counterparts to intentionally choose a black woman as his running mate. He chose Kamala Harris who has Indian and Jamaican roots.

Despite all the protests and proactive initiatives taken by politicians, frequent cases of racial discrimination and stark disparities keep popping up, taking back the country to yesteryears when racial injustice was at its peak.

According to a nationwide poll by The Undefeated and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) 7 in 10 African Americans believe that people are treated unfairly when it comes to their ethnicity especially in the area of medicals.

It is difficult to fathom that the Birla family was treated unfairly in this restaurant. It is surprising to learn that in this day and age “racism” has become such a controversial topic yet its dangerous claws seem to have a stronghold in various sections of American society.
