Amal Clooney Ditched Tom Ford’s Creation for the Met Gala, Tom and Team are Not Angry
All is well between Amal Clooney and Tom Ford.
Amal Clooney, the human rights lawyer and wife of George Clooney has angered designer Tom Ford by not wearing his creation at the Met Gala last week. Amal was supposed to wear one of his creations for the event but changed her mind at the last moment and wore a dress by British designer, Richard Quinn. Amal, 40, wore the backup dress which was a metallic bustier with a long floral trail teamed with cigarette pants. Quinn’s floral and botanical designs have even enamored the Queen of England who spotted sitting in the front row during his display at the London fashion week.
According to reports Ford’s staff were not happy for being ditched by the lawyer at the 11th hour. They were mildly annoyed when they were told that Ms. Clooney will not be wearing their creation for the red carpet, however, they said she should not wear the dress at all so that they could give it to another star to wear it for a different glamorous event. But unfortunately, that wasn’t to happen. Amal changed into Ford’s creation the same day for an after party.
Vogue editor and chair of the event, Anna Wintour, 68, told The Late Show that Amal stopped at into the Metropolitan Museum of Art's gift shop to change into Ford’s creation. Ford and his team toiled hard for Ms. Clooney’s dress for months to match the event's theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. They had designed a sparkling red crimson evening dress and it resembled a mosaic of a stained glass window. To make matters worse, Amal also appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine for the month of May.
However, a source close to Tom Ford has stated that reports of the whole dress drama are a mere exaggeration. “This has been blown completely out of proportion,” the source said, “No one on at Tom Ford is irate and it’s a total exaggeration.”
So that clears the air between Tom Ford and Amal Clooney, However, fashion fans were divided over Amal’s choice of dressing.
One fan wrote on Twitter: "The met gala has barely begun and I’m pretty sure Amal Clooney will win worst dressed."
Another wrote she failed to honor this year's theme - Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
One thing to note is that Amal carried off both the dresses beautifully. She looked glamorous in the floral number and looked gorgeous in the burgundy red one.
