‘Jigra’ featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina hasn’t been performing up to expectations in India.
The movie had a poor start, opening at Rs. 4.55 crore. It peaked on the second day, reaching Rs. 6.55 crore, capitalizing on Dussehra. The collections stood at Rs.5.5 cr on Sunday.
The movie directed by Vasan Bala witnessed a steep fall on the fourth day of its release. The film earned less than Rs. 2 crore on its first Monday thus failing the Monday litmus test.
According to trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, the film had a slow start due to its ‘urban centric appeal’. It failed to “reach beyond a few major centres”.
The film also stars Manoj Pahwa, Harssh A. Singh, Rahul Ravindran and Vivek Gomber among others.
‘Jigra’ is all about sibling love ! Satya (Alia Bhatt) is on a desperate mission to save her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina), who is in a Southeast Asian prison, awaiting execution. He has been wrongfully incarcerated on charges of drug use.
Ankur being the sole surviving member of Alia’s family, she is determined to save him at all costs. When she steps foot on foreign land to rescue brother, her hopes are shattered as the laws there are extremely stringent.
Alia can be considered as the main hero of the film. Some reviews say she portrayed the role of a protective sister to the T. Some movie buffs loved Vedang’s moving performance too. The movie is receiving mixed reviews but will it be successful in becoming a box office success? Time will reveal.
