Actor Johnny Depp in Trouble for Punching a Location Manager on the Sets of ‘City Of Lies’

Actor Johnny Depp is in the news for allegedly punching a location manager who wanted to wrap up early while shooting for the film ‘City of Lies.’ It’s said that Johnny Depp lost his cool and punched the manager twice breaking his ribs. Details below.  

Location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks has filed a 14-page court document in which he claims that Actor Johnny Depp punched him twice in the ribs outside Los Angeles’ Barclay Hotel. The manager claims that the actor physically and verbally assaulted him and he also offered the manager $100, 0000 (£75,000) to punch him back in the face in return. It’s stated in the court documents that the actor “reeked of alcohol" and also took drugs on set.

The assault which took place on April 13, 2017, last year, took shape when Brooks tried to enforce curfew restrictions. Brooks said that the production team had permission to shoot the film until 7 pm outside the hotel and until 10 pm inside the hotel. The crew overshot the permitted time duration earlier as a longer version of a scene with Depp and his two friends were being worked upon. Brooks was able to extend the permitted time twice however he was not given permission to extend beyond 11 PM. When Brooks approached the film’s Director, he was told, “Why don't you tell that to Johnny Depp?"

Brooks then approached an onsite police officer in order to take his support to break the news; when Depp began hurling abuses saying “You have no right to tell me what to do!" And then he punched Mr. Brooks in the ribs twice. It’s said that Depp’s bodyguards had to remove the actor from the sets. Brooks also stated that he was sacked from his role as a location manager when he refused to sign a declaration stating that he would not sue the film’s production company. Now, Brooks is seeking damages from Johnny Depp, ‘City of Lies’ Director- Brad Furman, Producer Miriam Furman, and the production company.

Johnny Depp’s ‘City of Lies’ is based on the book ‘Labyrinth’ written by Author and Journalist Randall Sullivan. The true story revolves around the murder investigations of rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. The movie is about LAPD detective Russell Poole (Johnny Depp) who is investigating the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.  A journalist “Jack” (Forest Whitaker) teams up with Russell (Randall Sullivan’s collaboration with Russell Poole) after two decades to unlock the truth behind the ghastly murders of both the rappers. Besides Johnny Depp, the film stars Forest Whitaker, Rockmond Dunbar, and Neil Brown Jr. The film is all set be released on September 7, 2017.
