A Traveler Was Arrested at Kochi Airport for Smuggling Gold from Doha. 466 gm Gold Was Concealed
AIU held a passenger and seized 466.5 gm of gold hidden in the shoe sole. Smuggled ornaments worth 30 lakh were apprehended.
Air Intelligence Unite arrested an Individual from Kochi airport for allegedly smuggling 466.5 gm of Gold. The passenger was traveling from Doha to Kochi on a Flydubai flight. The individual was apprehended at the exit gate after a tip.
The accused had a via flight from Dubai and after interception. He was searched by the Kochi customs bureau and upon searching 8 gold chains were seized by the customs. The market value of the gold is estimated to be around 30 lakhs.
A similar case was registered on August 9th when the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Around 1390.85 gm was seized by the customs which was quite a huge amount of gold recovered. Two large-sized metal bricks, which seemed like batteries, were confiscated by the passenger at the exit gate. The accused had also hidden the ornament's shoe sole.
With smuggling cases increasing, the security at the gates has increased. Kochi and Hyderabad remain a high-threat area as flights from Dubai and Doha are quite frequent.
