250,000 New Visa Slots Made Available after PM Modi's Visit to The USA

The United States has opened close to 250,000 visas from India which will accommodate tourists, students, and other working populations. A statement released on Monday claimed that the development will help people to apply for visas and work opportunities in the US. This will further enhance the ties between the two nations.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden set an ambitious goal to improve and expedite the visa process and I’m proud to say that we have delivered on that promise. "Our consular teams at the embassy and four consulates work tirelessly to ensure that we meet the surging demand," claimed Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador.

This year, the US recorded the highest number of non-immigrant visas out of which the majority were student visas. The students were able to successfully book their appointments with the consular in India. Indian traveler's appointment and visa processes have been made easy as they do not have to wait for longer times.

The year 2024 witnessed a spur of 1.2 million people applying for the US visa. This was close to 34 percent up compared to the census of last year and currently close to 6 million people have applied for the visa.

Indian students comprise 25 percent of the population in the US and it remains the top choice by students after Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia. In the year 2023, the US deployed close to 1.4 lakh visas to students which makes the demand pretty evident. The US government is aiming to provide visas to students and skilled employees that will not just add to the relationship between the two countries but can further reap economic benefits.
