China opened the 1,000 bed hospital, which is built in record nine days in Wuhan city, the epicentre of the coronavirus, which has now taken the shape of an epidemic. The clinical trials for a drug to treat the virulent virus have started, as the death toll in the outbreak soared to 425, with more than 20,000 confirmed cases across the world.

Meanwhile, a noted Chinese health care expert Zhong Nanshan has said that, based on the fresh evidence, the virus that is rapidly spreading in China and the world is going to reach its peak in the next 10 to 15 days. This also means that the cases would drastically increase in the next two weeks before slowing down.

Keeping in mind the future and to exclusively treat the coronavirus patients, China opened the 1,000 bed makeshift hospital, which is built in record nine days in Wuhan. Another 1,300 bed makeshift hospital will be soon opened adjacent to it. Together, both the hospital will have 2,300 bed hospitals, which are going to exclusively treat the coronavirus patients.

The new facility is going to ease the shortage of beds in the city resulting from an increasing number of patients infected with the virus. Medical wing of the People’s Liberation Army has taken over the responsibility of the new Huoshenshan Hospital.

The construction of the hospitals in such a record time is a major strength of the ruling Communist Party of China and its ability to deal with such epidemics. China has also begun clinical trials to test a drug to treat the patients of the coronavirus which till now has no cure. The drug developed by Thailand is also explored.

Meanwhile, the experimental antiviral drug, Remdesivir, which is to be tested in field trials, is developed by US-based Gilead Sciences, is in the past, used for treating infectious diseases such as Ebola and SARS.
