Mary Poppins Returns Official Teaser Trailer: A Sequel to Julie Andrews’ Original from Disney

The official teaser trailer of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ is out and reportedly, it’s a sequel of the original movie starring Julie Andrews. The Disney movie teaser trailer was released on YouTube, this March.

‘Mary Poppins’, the classic American musical fantasy released in 1964 is a magical tale where a nanny (Julie Andrews) comes flying from the sky to take care of the Banks family children, in London. The original film was produced by Walt Disney.

Now, after such a long long time Mary Poppins will be returning to cast her magical spell on all of us. Here’s the official teaser trailer of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’:

If you have seen the original movie, then you must be aware of the plot, how the magical nanny makes use of her magic to bring order and a warm bonding to a family that used to be chaotic.

For those who haven't seen this film, does the plot sound a bit familiar? And why not? The 1965 epic film ‘The Sound of Music’ thrives on a similar plot. But unlike ‘Mary Poppins’, here Julie Andrews plays the character of a ‘would be nun’ ‘Maria’, who gets appointed by the Trapp family as a nanny to take care of its rowdy children. And most importantly, the nanny(Julie Andrews) here has no magic, but the magic of love!

‘Mary Poppins Returns’ is starring Emily Blunt in the lead and the teaser trailer is a hint that this movie is surely going to amaze and amuse us with some outstanding special effects. There are of course, speculations regarding how much Emily Blunt can do justice to the character played by the legendary Julie Andrews. But the legend herself appeared to be super excited to see another British actress slipping into her shoes. “I admire her enormously,”, says Julie Andrews referring to Emily Blunt.

The 82 year old living legend also added, “It’s a brand new film based on all of the other stories Walt Disney had in his trunk based on the P.L. Travers’ Poppins character,” she explained. “It’s wonderful Emily is the new Poppins.”

Julie Andrews couldn’t cover her astonishment on how a 50 year old film is still seems to be so much impactful on today’s generation. Hush… why not… didn’t I mention ‘magic’?

Well, Mary Poppins’ nanny-children chemistry went so widely popular that the concept has been adapted several times by different directors and production houses, across the world. ‘Nanny McPhee’ released in 2005 tells a similar tale casting Emma Thompson in the lead, a nanny with magical powers. The film also had a sequel in 2010.

‘Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic’, the 2008 Indian, Hindi film is also based on a similar story starring renowned Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee as the nanny. The film’s conclusion however depicted that the magical nanny chooses to be with the family over her ‘Fairy self’ and transforms into a normal human being.

But one thing that made Julie Andrews so special as a performer is not only her beautiful face or acting skills, but her brilliant voice as well. She used to playback her own songs in her movies. That was, and still ‘is’ magical indeed! Will the tradition continue with Emily Blunt’s ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ too? Let’s see!

‘Mary Poppins Returns’ will be hitting the American theatres on December 28, 2018!
